Kebbi Gov't. urges FG to revoke Zuru road contract, allow state government to execute

The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has appealed to the Federal Government to revoke Koko-Zuru road contract and allow the state government execute it.

He made the plea at the launching of a magazine tittled: "A Publication of Gov. Idris Eventful Activities in Office" held at Presidential Lodge, Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

This is contained in a Press release by Ahmed Idris, the Chief press secretary to Kebbi state Governor on Tuesday 06/02/2014.

The programme which was organised by Kauran Gwandu for Governor (K4G) attracted different distinguished personalities.

Gov. Idris observed that the contractor handling the contract was not fit as it had waisted many years with no appreciable work on the site, hence the need for the appeal.

"We have the capacity and ability to construct the road and have kept aside over 70 per cent of the contract sum, therefore, we are ready to execute the project whenever the federal government allow us to so," he assured.

The governor announced that the state government was constructing a five kilometer township roads at Yauri, Argungu, Gwandu and Zuru Emirates to give the towns a befitting outlook.

While appreciating Kebbi people for coming out en mass to vote for APC in the Saturday's bye and rerun elections, the governor encouraged them to sustain the tempo for more democratic dividends.

Speaking on health sector, Gov. Idris promised to do everything possible to curb the exodus of medical doctors from state's own facilities to Federal Medical Centres, insisting that the salary gap would certainly be bridged.

He also pledged to procure grains and distributed same to people free-of-charge during Ramadan in addition to preparing food in at least one Mosque of each of the 21 Local Government Areas for breaking of fasting.

The Guest Speaker, Prof. Bello Bada from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, expressed satisfaction that the new governors in the Northwest had now shown zeal and commitment to work in harmony with one another regardless of party affiliation to restore peace and normalcy in the region.

"We must thank God Almighty that we now have governors who have the interest of people at heart, what they are doing is what we want and cherish.

"Let me also bring to your notice that I am a critique but I am happy that as Governor of Kebbi State, you are doing your best to become master of yourself and you are in-charge," he said.

According to him, teachers are happy, civil servants are happy, farmers are happy, pensioners are happy and of course everybody is happy about the new dawn in Kebbi State.

In his speech, Dr Isyaku Abdullahi said the magazine which had 37 pages featured the biography of the governor as well as political history of Kebbi State from 1999 to date.

Abdullahi added that the magazine also revealed how Kauran Gwandu administration improved security, ensured urban development, "where Birnin Kebbi is being transformed to a real state capital" and planned to build 120 schools across the state.

He observed that Kebbi had gone through a laudable transformation under His Excellency, Gov. Idris, hence the need for all stakeholders to rally round Kauran Gwandu's administration to take the state to next level of development.

Earlier, the Chairman K4G, Alhaji Sanusi Usman-Zaga said the magazine was not just a publication of words but also a clear and physical action as well as the list of achievements of Kauran Gwandu administration.
