Residents of the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State have nabbed an Islamic cleric identified as Babalola for possession of a human skull.
An X user, Uncle Deji @DejiAdesogan, on Saturday, January 20, 2023, said the cleric was arrested alongside four other suspects on Thursday and handed over to the police.
A resident, identified simply as Ayo, told newsmen that Babalola is the Chief Imam Adamo Central Mosque.
Another resident and eyewitness said that one of the suspects was caught with the human skull and he confessed that he was working for his principal, Imam Babalola.
"I have known the Imam for more than 5 years and this is a man the whole community is standing behind to pray, someone that most of us are looking up to,” the source said.
"People caught one of his men with the head and some human parts, and he confessed that he was holding them for the Imam. This was when the people stormed the Imam's house and arrested him together with four of his men,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has commended residents of the Adamo area of Ikorodu for apprehending the suspects.
A spokesperson for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on X on Saturday, assured the residents that justice would be attained.
"We commend the good people of Ikorodu for doing the right thing and not yielding to jungle justice. We will ensure justice is done,” Hundeyin said while retweeting the post by an X user, @DejiAdesogan, about the incident.
