From Muazu Hardawa Bauchi
Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has reconnected 31 Awaiting Trial Persons (ATPs) from Bauchi and other Custodial Centres across the state with their families, courtesy of the Committee on Administration of Justice.
Judicial correspondents, reports that the State Chief Judge, led the committee on a routine quarterly visit to review cases, released the awaiting trial persons where she charged them to be of good and examplery conduct when they move back to their destination.
The correctional service ATPs showed that 14 persons were set free from the Bauchi main Custodial Centre, while 10, 5 and 2 were respectively released from Tafawa Balewa, Ningi and Misau.
At the Katagum Correctional Service in Zaki Local Government Area, one of the centres Justice Rabi visited, expressed serious concern upon seeing young and energetic youths numbered over 100 languishing in jail upon civil and criminal offences especially in Gamawa.
Justice Rabi therefore charged youths in the state to distance themselves from tendencies of quick to get rich syndrome which often trap them into jail, saying there is nothing to hurry in life.
The Bauchi Chief Judge similarly tasked parents and guardians to lend credence to the proper upbringing of their children whom, she pointed out, are leaders of tomorrow and saying they should involve them in skills acquisition and other profitable ventures that will be better for their lives.
She was however, terribly worried at the Bauchi Custodial Centre, having understood during cases review that the police lacks proper documentation of case files, and where a case file is traced, you find that it wasn’t updated, and therefore asked prosecutors to brace up to their duties.
