END OF THE YEAR REPORTS : KEBBI CUSTOMS REMITTS N131.224 MILLION TO FG'S COVERS.

Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Custom Service has at the year ended on 31st December, 2021, remitted a total sum of N131.224 million to the Federal Government covers.

The Controller of Custom, Kebbi State Command, Comptroller Hafiz Kalla who disclosed this to newsmen Wednesday in Birnin-Kebbi at a press conference stated that the feat recorded by his men showed that it is no longer business as usual.

Kalla stated that Custom activities in the State as at the year ended 31st December, 2021, mainly focus on suppression of smuggling activities which led to the seizure of 154 assorted items valued at N118.949 million.

The seized items according to him includes, 1frequ bags of 50kg and 10 bags of 25kg of foreign parboiled rice, 299 packages of 1kg India Hemp, 253 Bales of second hand Clothing and 1,603 pieces of new textile materials.

Others are; one tanker lorry loaded with 50,000 litres of petrol, five units of vehicles and 111 pieces of used tyres. Adding that N13.181 million was generated as revenue from the auction sales of 128,750 liters of PMS/AGO and other perishable items sized by the in accordance with extant laws guiding Custom operations.

"A cursory look at our seizure records for the year under review when compared with the year 2020 showed a sharp decline in the frequency of smuggling and the items smuggled. While the Command made a total of 234 seizure in the year 2020, year 2021 was 154 which showed 35% decline in the rate of smuggling in the Command." He said.

Mr. Kalla said further that the quantity of smuggled rice into the State compared to 2020 had reduced by 20% in 2021, suggested that his Officers are winning the war on rice smuggling in the State.

"The success we recorded in the year under review could not have been made possible without necessary support from the Custom management which can be attracted to by the provision of seven brand new operational Vehicles to boost our anti smuggling capacity." He added.
