Eleven passengers dead out of 65 wounded in fatal motor accident in Kebbi

Eleven people have died out of sixty five passengers that sustained various degrees of injuries involved in a fatal motor accident along Maiyama Koko road in Kebbi state.

The accident happended after a driver to the DAF Trailer lost control of the vehicle after the head of the trailer severed from the body.

Spokesperson of Kebbi state police command SP Nafi'u Abubakar on 28th November, in a press release, stated that:

 "ON 27/11/2023 at about 0600hrs, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident along Maiyama/Koko road, involving a DAF Trailer with REG. NO. SKK837X driven by a yet to be identified driver,  conveying passengers, bags of onions, bags of beans and six (6) motorcycles and travelling from Goronyo LGA of Sokoto State to Niger State.

On reaching a point near Dada village, Koko/Besse LGA , the driver lost control of the vehicle as the truck head suddenly severed from the body.

Consequently the truck head alone, swerved into the bush. As a result, Sixty Five (65) passengers,  all males from Sokoto State, including the driver  sustained various degrees of serious injuries.


On receipt of the accident report, a team of traffic Policemen from Koko Division rushed to the scene and removed the victims to General Hospital koko, where a medical Doctor confirmed Eleven dead, while the remaining victims are currently responding to treatment.


In light of the above, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Omonzokpea Aimionowane, psc, mnips prayed the gentle souls of the deceased persons to continue to rest in Jannatul Fiddaus and wished the injured persons a speedy recovery.

The CP further warned all drivers plying the highways to avoid overloading and overspeeding while behind the wheels to prevent future reoccurrence".
