The Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency ( KECHEMA) has trained Ward Development Committee Chairmen in the State on their roles and responsibilities in the Management of Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) programme and Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Scheme (KECHES) for effective service delivery at primary healthcare centres.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Secretary of KECHEMA, Dr Jafar Muhammad Augie said that the two day Activity was organized as part of efforts to educate WDCs on their duties in the Ward Health System (WHS) as well as their role in sensitizing and mobilizing their communities to enrol into the State Contributory Healthcare Scheme of the Agency.

Dr. Jafar also urged them to support the relevant agencies of government in ensuring transparency, accountability and prudence management of funds send to the facilities by KECHEMA and Kebbi SPHCDA for the overall development of the Health System and improved healthcare delivery.

The Executive Secretary however called on WDCs to liase with heads of facilities to open Drugs Revolving Fund (DRF) Account, and sign MoU with the Kebbi State  Drugs and Medical Consumable Management Agency ( DMCMA) so as to ensure sustainable supply of quality drugs and medical consumables at affordable costs.

Dr. Jafar  said that KECHEMA would not condone out-of-stock and absenteeism at the health facilities. He also called on his sister agency, the Kebbi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency to redouble efforts to educate staff at PHC level on National treatment guidelines approved by both the Federal and State ministries of  health for safe and effective services.

Also Speaking, the State Chairman of Kebbi State WDC Forum, Barr. Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu Umar Kardi, tasks members to support KECHEMA by ensuring effective utilization of Funds given to the facilities by the Agency, and, as representatives of their people, ensure that the interests of their communities are safeguarded.

In his presentation,  Dr. Sulaiman Magani of the USAID Breakthrough Action Nigeria,  outlined the  "Ward Health System and its status of implementation in Kebbi State with regards to achievements and challenges" .

The Ag. State Coordinator National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) was represented by Dr. Rabo Ahmed Fana, who presented on the  "Roles and Responsibilities of WDCs at facility level in the implementation of BHCPF- NHIA GATEWAY.

Similarly the representative of the State Coordinator of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency NPHCDA, Pharm. Mr. Idowu presented on the "Ward Health System and the Importance of Ward Development Committees and Village Development Committees" . 

The Executive Secretary of the Kebbi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency was represented by Pharmacist Nasiru Yauri who assured the WDC chairmen that Kebbi SPHCDA would always be ready to attend to their complaints and recommendations in order to improve service delivery at their facilities.

The workshop was attended by all the WDC chairmen in the State and Excos of the Kebbi State WDC Forum. The Director Health, Ministry for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Chairman LGHA Directors' Forum were also in attendance.
