Breaking: Kebbi Customs seizes Truck load with 414 bags of donkey meat, generates over N127m revenue in April


The Nigeria Customs Service Kebbi Area Command, had recorded 17 seizures between 15th April and 15th May 2023
.

This was disclose by the state Comptroller of Customs Kebbi area Command Dr. Ben Oramalugo during a press briefing at the command headquarters Birnin kebbi on Friday 19th May 2023. Online News publisher isyaku.com reports. 

He said the command had intercepted a truck loaded with donkey meat and skin along Bunza - Kanba Axis during stop and search following intelligence report. 

The comptroller said:

" While conveying the truck to the command for further investigations, the officers were attacked by some unscropulous  elements from the village of Bunza, Bunza local government area of Kebbi state.  These bad elements broke the windscreen of two patrol vehicles belonging to the command, forcing our officers to retreat".

"We later call for re-enforcement from the army, before the arrival of the army, the mob manage to whisk away the truck to the surrounding bushes". 

"The command officers and the army waited patiently untill late hours before they continue with their operations. The truck and it's content were eventually found at about 0100hrs at different locations and had since been brought to the command." He said.

Items seized by the command under review include:

1. One Volvo truck (6 tyres) fully loaded with 212 big sized sacks and 202 small sized sacks of donkey meat/skin
2. 4 used vehicles comprising 2 Toyota Camry 2013 and 2 used Honda Jazz 2005.
3. 55 bale of secondhand clothes.
4. 4,925 litres of PMS
5. 13 bags of foreign parboiled rice.
6. 5 kegs of vegetable oil.
7.  1 blue Volvo (6 tyres) and one Toyota Corolla ash as means of conveyance among others.

The duty paid value of the siezed items is seventhy one million, two hundred and eighty seven thousand, fifty six Naira (N71,287,056)

Dr. Oramalugo said the command had in the month of April generated revenue of  one hundred and twenty seven million, three hundred and sixty four thousand, one hundred naira only (N127,364,100).

The comptroller attributed the success to the gallant officers of the command including all units with emphasis on the customs intelligence unit, and efforts of some retired officers and community leaders who assisted with positive advise that culminated to the said success.
