The Sokoto State Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Balarabe Dandinmahe, has called on Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to upgrade electricity installations across the state.
Dandinmahe made the call at Kaduna Electric Customer Engagement Forum for consumers from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States in Sokoto on Wednesday.
He emphasised the urgent need for the company to consider upgrading, refurbishing and total overhaul of the installations as many were over 40 years old.
He said the poor condition of equipment, erratic power supply, possibility of expanding the distribution services to equate the growing population are urgently desirable for Kaduna Electric.
The commissioner noted about 80 per cent installations were done by either state or local government areas in Sokoto State, indicating the need for the company to reciprocate the efforts by providing incentives to citizens.
According to him, the company should also prioritises relationships with customers in the state and ensure that its workers possess good human relations.
Dandinmahe further appealed to the company to redesign, improve metering system, saying that Sokoto was far left behind in the ongoing digital system.
Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Directors of Kaduna Electric, Alhaji Abbas Jega, said the forum was routine efforts to obtain direct public complaints, suggestions and other concerns from customers with a view to improve the services.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event witnessed questions and answers, resolutions, forwarding of individuals and groups’ complaints on electricity, payments, recorded damages and poor conditions of facilities.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive of Kaduna Electric, Mr Yusuf Yahaya, along with distribution managers from the three states led intensive interaction between company officials and the public.
They pledged to make adjustments as well as enhance the services. (NAN)
