KEBBI GOVT, USAID, PMI-US PARTNERS TO DISTRIBUTES 2.8 MILLION MOSQUITOES NETS.

The Kebbi State Government in collaboration with the United States President's malaria Initiative (PMI-US) and the USAID are to commence the distribution of 2.8 million Insecticide Treated Mosquito nets (ITN) to every household in the second week of next month.

This was disclosed to newsmen yesterday during a press parley organized by the officials of the Kebbi State Government, USAID and PMI-US during a media dialuge with Journalists to create awareness across the societies.

It was disclosed that malaria is a life threatening disease transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, sleeping inside an Insecticide Treated Net therefore is one of the best way to prevent malaria as they form a physical and chemical barrier against mosquitoes.

It was further disclosed that to reduce burden of malaria in the State, the State Government in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) with the support of the United State President's Initiative (PMI-US) is implementing a campaign to distribute 2.8 million treated nets to every household across the State.

Noting that Household mobilization and registration will be from 1st to 9th October, as persons wearing uniform with malaria logo will visit different homes to register and issue net cards that will be used to collect free nets at designated distribution points when distribution commences.

It was further noted that prevalence of malaria in children under age of five in the State is 52% (NDHS 2018), Nigeria according to the discussion account for almost 110 million clinIcally diagnosed cases per year, with an estimated 30% of child mortality and 11% of maternal death each year due to malaria.
