REMARKS BY THE HONOURABLE ATTORNEY- GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION AND MINISTER OF JUSTICE, ABUBAKAR MALAMI, SAN DURING THE FORMAL PRESENTATION OF OFFICIAL VEHICLES TO MAGISTRATE AND SHARI’A COURTS JUDGES IN ZAMFARA STATES ON THURSDAY 10TH JUNE, 2021
Protocol:I feel highly elated to have been formally invited to participate and partake in this very important and historic event.Respecting the Constitution and, by extension, rule of law remains the cardinal principles on the basis of which the administration of Present Muhammadu Buhari operates.
People of Zamfara state are living witnesses to the Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressive Congress Administration of unflinching determination and unweaving resolve for strict compliance with the provisions of the rule of law and democratic tenets.
The Federal Government’s policy of non-interference in any judicial determination enhanced speedy dispensation of justice, quick and speedy justice delivery especially the election petition. You may recall that in May, 2019 the Supreme court, in a unanimous judgment held that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) did not conduct valid primary elections to nominate candidates for any elective position in the state.
The judgment paves the way for the major opposition party- the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for first time in the history of Zamfara state with Governor (Dr) Bello Mohammad (Matawallen Maradun) to clinch the helm of affairs of the State as the Executive Governor. I am pleased that today we are witnessing 2nd year anniversary of such purposeful administration of Governor Bello Matawalle.
It is gratifying to note that during the two years of administration of Matawallen Maradun, many important developmental projects were carried out. More importantly, this administration saw to enhancement of peace and order in most part of the state in view of the lingering security challenges in the country.
Measures have been taken by the Federal Government to bring to an end the insecurity in the country.Judiciary is an important organ of democratic governance.
It is the dividends of such autonomous and independent judiciary at the Federal Government that result in the present administration.It is a common knowledge that the Buhari-led Federal Government is committed to having independent, autonomous, and effective operations of State Judiciary and Legislature.
The signing of Executive Order 10 by President Muhamamdu Buhari was aimed at re-enforcing and complementing Section 121(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Today’s ceremony for the formal presentation of operational vehicles to Magistrate and Shari’a Courts Judges in Zamfara State is no doubt a step towards enhancing productivity of the judges across the state.
It is hoped that with the formal presentation of operational vehicles to Magistrates and Shari’a Courts Judges in Zamfara State, the State Government and indeed, governors of the 36 States of the Federation will work towards having the Executive Order 10 for the autonomy of State Legislature and Judiciary implemented.
I salute the foresight of the Executive Governor for coming out with this laudable initiative. I urge judges to take this as a morale booster to be more active in justice dispensation.
