Prison decongestion: Kebbi Ag. Cheif Judge discharges 74 inmates, admits 37 on bail

Chief Judge of Kebbi state has discharged seventy four inmates, out of which thirthy seven were admitted on bail while their case continues in court. 

In a visit to old correctional facility in Birnin kebbi, along with the Chief registrar Hassan Muhammad Kwaido, Director Public prosecution Lawal Udu Umar, Senior Judicial officers, Police and NSCDC Prosecutors, had in a legal process discharged the inmates.

It could be recalled that the state Governor Nasir Idris, during a swearing in ceremony of the acting Grand Khadi at the Government House Birnin kebbi, charged the CJ to  help decongest the prisons within his constitutional mandate.

During the process, some inmates told the CJ that they were brought into the facility four years ago without being charged in the Court. 

A female inmate was discharged while two other female were discharged among the total number of those that were discharged by the CJ on Wednesday.
