A Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old Point of sale (POS) operator, Chukwu Philip, to six months imprisonment for stealing his employer’s N153,000 cash
Philip, who lives in Byazhin, Abuja, pleaded guilty to the three counts of breach of trust by servant, theft and cheating.
The Area Court judge, Malam Sulyman Ola however, gave Philip an option of N20,000 fine and also warned him to be of good behaviour.
Philip had earlier begged the court for leniency.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada told the court that on May 9 the complainant, Chisom Peter, reported the matter at the Byazhin Police Station.
Ogada said that the complainant employed the convict as a POS operator in his shop and gave him a POS machine and N153, 000 cash for commercial purpose.
He told the court that the convict collected the machine and N153, 000, cash from the complainant and absconded.
He said that the convict was later caught and handed over to the police for investigation.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation the POS machine was recovered in a lottery shop and the convict made a confessional statement.
Ogade said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 314,287 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
