Reports reaching isyaku.com indicated that Adamawa State has recorded its first case of death from the viral hemorrhagic fever, popularly known as Lassa fever.
It has been confirmed that the victim was an official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence
Corps, identified as Gabriel Ambe from Numan, Adamawa State.
The NSCDC officer Ambe, who was reportedly serving in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government
Area of Taraba State, died last Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre,
Yola.
Head of Taraba state Rapid Response Team for Infectious Disease, Dr.
Batulu Mohammed and another medical consultant, Dr. Sati Awang, who
confirmed the development on Saturday, said the deceased tested positive
for the viral hemorrhagic fever.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fatima Abubakar, said the death was the first recorded case of Lassa fever in the state.
Abubakar said other health experts in infectious disease and
representatives of the World Health Organisation were trying to identify
individuals who came in contact with the deceased to contain its
spread.
She maintained that since the deceased was suspected to have
contracted the disease from Taraba State, the commissioner for health in
Taraba State had also been contacted in order for both states to
contain the disease.
Relatives of the deceased took to Facebook to pay tribute to the late
officer. said Ambe was also an artiste- Producer, photographer and IT/
digital guru.
